Hello from Florence

Made it to Italy and spent two days in Rome; I am now in an internet cafe in Florence doing a real quick post. The bus ride here was awesome except our tour guide CAN'T STOP TALKING. Then the first place she brought us in Florence was a LEATHER STORE. Seriously. We walked right by the Duomo and went into a duty free shop and they started giving us a tour. Ridiculous. So the five of us walked out and came here. We have an hour. Sigh. I want to see the Duomo and the David. What are we doing here????

Anyways.... Rome has been great. We have a gorgeous apartment a 10 minute walk from the Vatican and see St. Peter's Dome from our balcony. We did the Scavi tour. We toured the Vatican Museum and saw the Sistene Chapel. Awesome but crowded.

Anyways I better go... see you all soon! :)

I heard somewhere (maybe the travel channel?) that Italy is famous for its leather. Maybe that's why the tour guide started with a leather store? I guess it makes sense, but much like you, I'd rather see the historical places, monuments, and artwork! Enjoy!

We also went to a leather store when we were in Florence. Could very well be the same leather store...:) Probably not, that was 12 years ago. But you seem to be enjoying your trip, I'm glad to hear that, and hopefully you'll get more pictures than me (I had no film for Rome, Venice, and Pisa. Oops). Enjoy the remainder of your trip!

Sounds like a great start to the trip, and a great location for the apartment. Much envy here :)

Florence and Italy is famous for leather, but that place was such a tourist trap. And outrageously expensive. And if we hadn't gone in there, we might've had time to actually VISIT the Duomo. We just saw the exterior. Hmph.

But the trip was great, and I will soon be posting a run down of the week.. with pictures!!!! :)
